fotocommunity goes Darkmode

Darkness at last: Dark Mode is here!🌙

The fotocommunity has been supporting photographers since 2001 – and those who have been with us for a long time will surely remember:
The fotocommunity used to be dark. A deep gray, #222222 to be precise, characterized the appearance of the site for many years. It was more than just a background color – it was a trademark. Against this dark gray, photos appeared intense, clear, and rich in contrast. They took center stage, as befits a platform dedicated to photography.

When fotocommunity unveiled a new white design in 2016, it came as a big surprise. Bright, friendly, modern—but for many of you, the familiar, calm viewing experience was missing.

Back to basics – with freedom and flexibility

The fresh breeze that has been blowing through the halls of the fotocommunity since May has set many things in motion. And now the time has come:
Dark mode is back!

From now on, you can customize the appearance of the fotocommunity to suit your own preferences. Whether light or dark—you decide how you want to experience the fotocommunity.

Simply activate dark mode via your personal menu under👉 „Settings – Functions“

And now you can immerse yourself in the familiar darkness once again.

Why a dark background is more than just a design issue

A dark background allows photos to breathe. Colors appear richer, contrasts clearer, and light and shadow unfold their full effect. Especially when viewed in full screen mode, dark mode mimics the way we view images in exhibitions or in dim lighting—focused, calm, emotional.

The transition from the dark image display to the light-colored comment section was also a visual break. With the new dark mode, the entire viewing experience is harmonious again—just as you wanted it to be.

And that’s just the beginning

The option to select the mode manually is already live. But that’s just the first step: soon, you’ll be able to switch between light and dark mode directly from the side menu – intuitively, whenever you want.

Back to the roots – with new splendor

Dark mode is more than just a visual option—it’s a piece of fotocommunity history that’s making a comeback.

A small but significant sign that we listen to you, preserve what has been tried and tested, and at the same time break new ground.

Have fun discovering it – and taking photos in the best light, even when it’s dark. 🌒

Lars and your fotocommunity team!
